FernRidge Landscaping - GreenForce TV Program S01E01

This promo video, showing off different jobs we did for Green Force features a variety of different projects. The Fern Ridge crew had a great time working with Carson Arthur on the show. Not only was it just plain nifty working on television, the work done by the show was good for the community; upgrading the Landsdown Subway Station for the people of the neighbourhood; Perram House - the palliative care residence; the Working Women’s Centre, brightening the front of the building and giving them a fun, beautiful place to sit; and finally for Ecuhomes community housing – everyone deserves a nice place to spend time with their families to play and relax. The folks at Tricon Films put this video together for us as a huge favour and we are very grateful.

Lansdown Subway Station
Part 1 of 3
Green Force is head up by an outdoor design/environmental expert and a whole lot of hard working gardeners, all with one goal in mind, to turn unused urban landscapes into usable, sustainable green spaces. We are going to bring green back to the hospices, the subway stations, the daycares, the asphalt parks, the downtown buildings and anywhere else the concrete jungle has taken over.

Ecuhomes
Part 1 of 3
A community housing centre had a very old, very tired and NOT very useful landscape. Carson’s design created an area with lots to do and zones to relax. Instead of removing the existing pathways, we built over them, maintaining the excellent base and reducing fill going to the dump. (Even the old wooden deck found a new life as FOUR docks up north.) It had some interesting features as well including a bocce court and arbors made of raw cedar and built by Ben Hale of Leaf it to Me Landscaping, an associate of Fern Ridge Landscaping and Eco-consulting.

The Working Women’s Centre
Part 1 of 3
As a place that trains new Canadian women for jobs, it deserved a nice entrance. Carson designed an area with useful sitting and lovely gardens which look good all year. The amazing sculptures proved that art IS essential to the garden. Gardening itself is not usually recognized as art – a situation we’re trying to change! Landscaping not only makes life better but it also increases property value by making it look its best.

Perram House
Part 1 of 3
Making life better for those living in palliative care during the last days of their lives and giving them a peaceful place to enjoy the world reminded us of the difference our work makes in the lives of those who pass through our landscapes. Since it was a shady site with sandy soil it offered design challenges. Matching plants to site conditions is always a challenge but knowing when to push the envelope can be useful and broadens the scope of what can be done for a customer.
